Sponsor Description

eircom

eircom

Continues commitment to fostering innovation in the digital community

eircom’s relationship with the Spider Awards stretches over seven years and as title sponsor we are immensely proud to support and reward the ongoing achievements of the online community. The eircom Spider Awards not only provide an opportunity to recognise excellence and innovation they also provide a unique platform to highlight emerging trends and future potential growth sectors within the online environment.

It is very encouraging to see how the award categories have evolved over the years. Since the awards were originally launched back in 1996 so much has changed in the world of technology.

This year we are very excited to announce a number of new award categories, among which is the Big Mouth Award. This award will be given to the most influential voice in Irish Internet and digital media and it will be voted for by the public. We are expecting a huge level of public interest in this category.

Again this year, we will partner with Business & Finance for the eircom Junior Spiders awards. The eircom Junior Spider Awards recognise the most talented and innovative users of the Internet in primary and post primary schools across Ireland. There was a very positive response to last year’s inaugural Awards and the judging panel were blown away by the levels of talent and creativity coming through from the schools. Ireland has a very bright online future if the talent of country’s school kids is anything to go by.

I am particularly pleased to be involved in the eircom Spider Awards this year. It’s my first time working with the team and I am genuinely looking forward to getting my teeth into the judging process along with the other members of the judging panel.

As a keen user and indeed promoter of “all things online”, I am especially pleased to be given this opportunity to experience firsthand the work of our online users (young and old!)

DoneDeal.ie

DoneDeal.ie

DoneDeal.ie is Ireland’s largest and most successful online classified adverts website and today claims a market leadership position twice as big as its nearest competitor. The company provides an easy safe marketplace for people to buy or sell all sorts of things. Features include photos with all ads, low cost advertising (€3 per classified advert) with hassle free payment by phone and free tracking tools.
On average, 50,000 new items are advertised each month, with products ranging from art and antiques, right through to video games and vehicles. The site currently has approximately 100,000 adverts active on the website.
Founded in 2005 by Fred and Geraldine Karlsson, the business has steadily grown and today claims approx. 4.6 million visits per month with over 1 million of these being unique visitors, according to independent website metrics company, Ireland Metrix.
DoneDeal.ie was only established in 2005 but already it is a rapidly maturing business. Climbing revenues, record traffic volumes, a fast-growing customer base – all indicators of a business that has found its audience and knows what it is about. If the last five years have been about putting the business on the map, the next five will be about ensuring it stays there.
How will it do this? By continuing to listen to customers. By continuing to innovate. And by continuing to offer people a great, easy and safe place where they can buy and sell second-hand stuff.
