ABOUT US

The eircom Spiders: An annual event honouring Irish individuals and organisations for their outstanding achievements online.

About the eircom Spiders

The eircom Spiders - Recognising excellence in internet & digital media

Established in 1996, the eircom Spiders are now in their 18th year making them the longest standing and most prestigious internet awards in Ireland. They reward Irish businesses and community organisations for their creativity and innovation and provide an important opportunity to recognise and showcase online excellence.

The eircom Spider awards are considered an important benchmark for distinction and excellence in web-based business strategies.
On November 28th, the most important figures in online and digital media will gather at the spectacular Convention Centre Dublin for ‘The Oscars’ of their industry, which is a must attend event for organisations operating within the technology sector as well as non-profit and corporate sectors.

The eircom Spider Awards provide an ideal platform to target not only the technology sector but a variety of industries. With categories rewarding excellence in every conceivable field of this dynamic medium, entrants are judged by an independent panel of industry experts.

Winners will be the brightest talents, the most innovative creators and the most dynamic companies. There are hundreds of entrants each year, and the awards are attended by over 700 guests and reported widely in the national media. For those companies at the cutting edge of internet technology, and for anyone seeking to develop business within this powerful and fast moving marketplace, sponsorship of the eircom Spider awards is an excellent opportunity to market your brand.

Following research conducted with Spiders attendees from 2012, and our own insights, in 2013 we have broadened the categories in terms of who can enter, and also make categories more relevant to current industry developments, as well as industry direction. This will increase the level of nominations, the level of interaction with the industry, and the level of attendance. With adjustment to the categories we can continue to demonstrate the Spiders and in turn eircom’s support of young enterprise and innovation in Digital Ireland.

eircom Spider Awards mission statement

The eircom spider awards are an annual event that acknowledges on line efforts of exemplary performance that exceed industry practices and are recognised as the benchmark for distinction and merit in web-based business strategies that excel in the efficient and innovative use of technology.

The awards not only reward Irish businesses and community organisations but also individuals for their creativity and innovation. Although the eircom Spiders have a strong business slant, the awards also recognise the importance of promoting internet usage within the community.

Always innovative, the eircom spider’s awards are judged by a prestigious panel of experts, comprised of leaders from industry, commerce, media and academia. The panel evaluates entries on a diverse range of judging criteria including content, structure & navigation, visual design, functionality, interactivity as well as overall user experience.

The eircom Junior Spider Awards

The fifth eircom Junior Spider Awards 2013 took place in March at The RDS, Dublin and was without a doubt the best Junior Spiders yet.

Schools from around the country were there to collect their winners' prizes. The entries were a great insight into the high skill levels in web design among primary and post primary school students. The teachers showed great support and advice needed by students to allow them to enter the awards.

The event was hosted by 98Fms Aidan Power and was a fantastic fun-filled afternoon, enjoyed by students, teachers, parents and sponsors. The programme is supported by Intel, IEDR, NCTE and endorsed by the ASTI, CESI, INTO and Primary Times among others.
