The eircom Spiders - Recognising Excellence in Internet & Digital Media

The eircom Spiders Awards are an annual event honouring Irish individuals and organisations for their outstanding achievements online and celebrating the successes of the Irish internet and digital media.

The awards not only reward Irish businesses and community organisations but also individuals for their creativity and innovation. The eircom Spiders provide an important opportunity to recognise and showcase online excellence and are considered an important benchmark for distinction and merit in web-based business strategies.

There are 20 award categories which range from “Best Interactive Marketing Campaign”, to “Internet Hero” and the overall “Grand Prix” – recognising online achievements across a wide range of industries including Media, Entertainment, Sports & Leisure, Finance, Retail, Professional Services, Travel, Tourism & Hospitality and e-Business. Although the eircom Spiders have a strong business slant, the awards also recognise the importance of promoting internet usage within the community and award an accolade for "Best Community or Charity Website".

There are two “People’s Choice” awards which look to the online community for their nominations and voted – “Big Mouth” searches for the most influential voice online in Ireland and “Online Community” looks for the favourite online community website which maintains their peer’s interest and opens up new communication avenues.

The awards are judged by a prestigious panel of experts, comprised of leaders from industry, commerce, media and academia. The panel evaluates entries on a diverse range of judging criteria including content, structure & navigation, visual design, functionality, interactivity as well as overall user experience.

The eircom Spider Awards are managed by Business & Finance Media Group, publisher of Business & Finance magazine and owner of businessandfinancetoday.com which provides up-to-the-minute business news and information.

eircom have been the title sponsors of the eircom Spiders Awards since 2004 and are delighted to continue its sponsorship of the awards entering their 14th year. The eircom Spiders have become the most prestigious internet awards in Ireland and are widely recognised, having become a benchmark of excellence and a must-attend night for the industry.

The eircom Junior Spider Awards

The first ever Junior Spider Awards took place on 18th December 2009 in eircom's HQ in Dublin. Schools from Cork, Wicklow, Meath and Dublin among others were there to collect their winners' prizes. The entries this year were a great insight into the high skill levels in web design among primary and post primary school students. The teachers showed great support and advice needed by students to allow them to enter the awards.

The event was hosted by Aidan Power and was a fantastic fun-filled afternoon, enjoyed by students, teachers, parents and sponsors. The programme is supported by IEDR, NCTE, Intel among others and endorsed by the NCTE, TUI, INTO, ASTI and Primary Times. Click here to view the photos of the event.
